Life’s Work – Career – Kingdom Resources

Use Employment to Reach Others

Careers that are focused on using the talents, gifts, and skills for glorifying God, have a great opportunity to reach people for Christ. As Colossians 3:23 says, “Work as if working for the Lord, not for man.” We see where God is calling us to worship Him as we reach others by our devotion to Him. People are most often vulnerable to change in their lives when they are experiencing difficulty. If our work gives us an opportunity to reach out to others when they are experiencing trauma in their lives, we can have no better opportunity to change the hearts and minds of those suffering.

Mentor

Mentors help us gain knowledge. At work, a mentor goes above and beyond “training” and atively take an interest in the well-being and performance of a coworker. Christian mentors combine knowledge with wisdom, understanding, and discernment that can only come from God.

Bless Co-workers & Customers

As a marketplace pastor while at work, we have an opportunity to bless all those we meet each day. Pray everyday that God will give you a set of circumstances that allow to reach people for Christ. Truly setting this goal and aim before ourselves every morning will change how we approach our work, and it will change the lives of our colleagues.

Maintain Life Balance

Most people find themselves in bondage with their work. II Timothy 2:26 describes it as “…and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” Even though our nation is considered free, many people live in slavery with their work. If you find yourself working for a paycheck only, but do not consider your work to be either a stepping stone to God’s greater plan or an opportunity to serve God, then you are likely in bondage. We have all seen people who simply work for the paycheck. They are the last ones to come to work and the first ones out. They take every sick day, legitimate or not, every personal day, every minute of every lunch hour and every break. When we work for the Lord, we see all work as an opportunity to share and let people know to whom we belong.

Provide Encouragement

The world often discourages others because of the common inward focus on themselves. When your focus is on others, through your encouragement, you can open countless opportunities to reach people for Christ.

John 13:35 “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
